University Teaching at Temple University

In the fall of 2019 I began my doctoral work in music education at Temple University. In my first year I was a graduate assistant for Dr. Elizabeth Parker's class Music Learning and Development, a sophomore level music education course  Below is the first portion of a class period I led on teaching improvisation. Late that same semester I lead a class on technology in music education. Class actives included a model teaching using Ableton Live, an exploration of DrumBit, a discussion of various uses of music technology in the classroom, and a small group exploration of the ChromMusicLab

Red Wing Roots Academy

In the summer I have the honor of teaching cello and bass at the Red Wing Roots Academy in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Students learn traditional American fiddle tunes, play in classes and jam and perform on stage with local bluegrass band, The Steel Wheels. More information about the festival and academy can be found at RedWingRoots.com

In the fall of 2017 I began as the lead teacher in a partnership between the Philadelphia Orchestra and KIPP West Philadelphia Middle and Elementary Schools. A team of teaching artists and I built a strings program offering instruments and instruction to all entering students in K and 5th grade during the school day. Now in its third year the program continues to flourish with two full-time teachers, more than ten teaching artist serving more than 400 students in grade K-8.

Foundation Academy - Trenton, NJ

From 2012-2016 I taught string at Foundation Academy Charter School. All students in 5th and 6th grade played a string instrument in my class and we regularly put on concerts with several hundred student performers. During this time I also oversaw the explanation from middle school grades to a K-8 school. Highlights from my time there include our spring and winter concerts at Rider University, collaborations with local professional musicians, a visits from the governor of NJ, and a jam session with Wyclef Jean. Additional student performances can be viewed in Student Performances
